In the 1950’s, Bud Reggear worked on an 80-acre property in Orofino, ID, where he logged and piled logging slash for the owners of that land. When Bud completed his work, the owners gave Bud the option of receiving a cash payment or taking ownership of that 80-acre land. That’s when Bud and his wife, Virdia, decided to become the new owners of the 80-acre land where they both continued to log on it.
In the early 1960’s, Bud and Virdia Reggear decided to purchase an additional 160 acres for $5,000. On this land, 1.5 million board feet of timber were on it as well as many spruce trees. With this purchase, Bud and Virdia decided to open their own Christmas Tree business. Their business continued to become profitable throughout the 60’s.
In 1972, a Christmas tree buyer from Canada saw the blue spruce Christmas trees and asked Bud and Virdia for five semi loads of blue spruce to be dug and shipped to Canada. This is when the idea of a B&B business was born.
With a 44” Vermeer spade mounted on a trailer, the production level maxed out at 45 trees a day. Through hard work and continued planning, the family built a successful wholesale nursery stock business.
When Bud and Virdia were ready to retire, their son’s Bob and Mike purchased the farm and have continued to pursue the lofty potential goals for the business. In 2000, Bob and Mike decided to purchase the 240-acre farm in Craigmont. With this purchase the business expanded into deciduous plant material. Reggear Tree Farms now operates 400 acres of nursery stock with over 125 varieties of specialty B&B stock.
